Electron Workshop Women’s Grant: The Electron Workshop Women’s Grant application deadline is now closed! Thank you to all those who applied. We will advise our decision via email by the end of April. Good luck!

RHoK (Random Hacks of Kindness) Showcase Evening This week RHoK scheduled a showcase evening to show people what they have been working on over the past months, an evening that featured Sean Herron from NASA, a passionate member of the RHoK.  For more info on this RHoK check out http://www.rhok.org/

Free Co-working Fridays: Coworking at the Electron Workshop on Fridays continues to be free & open to those who have not yet had the opportunity to work in the space. This month we had a coworking pop-up by Melbourne Jelly!

New Workshop Hosts & Members: We are excited to announce our new Workshop hosts – developers Hamish and Frank of Melbourne Made!  Hamish and Frank are the latest to join the Electron Workshop community.  “Fresh from the delivery of Australia’s first biodiversity social network, Bowerbird.org.au, Melbourne Made specialise in the rapid development of socially networked websites and companion Apps.”

In addition to welcoming Hamish and Frank, we are also pleased to introduce Luke Woodhill of Digital Empire to the Electron Workshop – “Digital Empire focuses on developing digital business. Digital Empire has a portfolio of digital businesses under management and also works with other organisations to develop their business further via the digital channel.”  Welcome Luke!

Artbox is the world’s first dedicated video art player, incubated out of the Electron Workshop. Artbox is an initiative by local artists and developers, and will be culminate into a free software project for the Raspberry Pi microcomputer.

Today is a big day for Artbox, because the project is launching its Pozible crowd funding campaign, and to celebrate, they’re running a video art show tonight at Fed Square called One hundred and twenty secondsThe show will be on the big screen from 6pm tonight, featuring 50 local and international artists – over 300 people are set to join the celebration – it’s going to be huge!

Electron Workshop has partnered with Artbox, and is incubating the project along with other partners such as Federation Square and the Victorian College of the Arts, who are also working closely with the team to help develop this innovative project.

We launched our Women’s Workshop Grant for International Women’s Day, Cryptoparty, Electron Workshop & EFA are collaborating this Thursday for their first series of events, and OpenTechSchool are back in April for their second workshop. Also keep an eye out for more workshops by Chris Burgess on WordPress and Mark Butt on Hackduino in the coming months.

Electron Workshop’s Women’s Grant: To celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8th, we launched our Women’s Workshop Grant! We’re passionate about supporting women in technology, so we’ve introduced a grant dedicated to helping with the sometimes difficult step of starting your own business or going freelance. The Electron Workshop was built by us, with virtually no outside contractors. It was a labour of love, tears and sweat; we wanted to build our dream workspace, and here it is to share.
